Deep Tissue, Myofascial, & Sport's Massage
Deep tissue and myofascial work tend to be focused, specific modalities. We will generally work in one or a few targeted areas for the length of the session at moderate to firm pressure. This work is very effective at muscular realignment, breaking up scar tissue and increasing blood flow to an area. I offer pre-event, post-event and maintenance bodywork for both professional and recreational athletes. Incorporating massage into your training routine will enhance performance, prevent injury and ensure longevity.
Swedish style bodywork is characterized by long, fluid strokes that target the belly of the muscle. It is typically performed with oil or lotion and mild to moderate pressure. It's application is useful for circulatory massage, that helps with movement of blood and lymph as well as stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and relaxation.
Shiatsu & Thai Inspired Massage
Both Shiatsu and Thai Massage are steeped in tradition. Shiatsu was developed in Japan, based on the principles of Chinese Medicine and the movement and balancing of Chi in the body. Thai Massage originated in India and has since evolved with strong roots in Buddhism and Thai culture. While each are distinct culturally they have many similarities. This bodywork is performed with the client fully clothed, using no oils or lotions and is typically done on the floor on a mat. It consists primarily of stretching, joint mobilization and point work (acupressure) along Meridian (Shiatsu) or Sen (Thai) Lines. The effects of this work is often found to be both stimulating and relaxing .
